Geelong and the Surf Coast have a particular kind of energy: open space, coastal light, old town textures, family properties, vineyards, beaches, sheds, paddocks and the sort of wind that can either ruin a hairstyle or save a photograph.
STRANGELOVE photographs weddings across Geelong, Torquay, Bellbrae and the wider Surf Coast with a mix of documentary observation, cinematic framing and editorial portraiture. The goal is not to make everything look expensive and perfect. The goal is to make it feel alive.
weddings with room to breathe
One of the great things about this part of Victoria is space. Space between places. Space around people. Space for a day to feel like a day rather than a sequence of appointments.
That gives the photography room too. We can make portraits without turning the wedding into a production, chase a patch of late light if it appears, or simply stay with the people and let the story come to us.
coast, country, weather, humans
The Surf Coast is visually generous, but the landscape is not the point on its own. A beautiful horizon is still just a horizon until something human happens inside it.
I am watching for the wind catching fabric, the nervous laugh before the ceremony, guests sheltering from a sudden shower, the sun dropping behind a paddock, the quiet pocket behind the reception where two people finally exhale.
Bellbrae, Torquay and beyond
I have photographed weddings around Torquay and Bellbrae, including Bellbrae Harvest, and I know the useful little realities of the area: travel between locations, shifting coastal weather, sunset that can disappear behind cloud in thirty seconds, and the fact that dirt roads are often prettier than they are kind to shoes.
If your wedding is somewhere more rural, more coastal, more private, or not especially easy to classify, even better. The work does not need a postcode-shaped mould.
real story, not styled approximation
The documentary side of the work matters here just as much as the portraits. I want the family, the waiting, the weather, the glasses on the table, the person carrying chairs in formalwear, the speeches, the little detours and the full glorious collapse of dignity once the dance floor gets involved.
When something more composed belongs, I will make it. When nothing needs improving, I leave it alone.
